10 years ago it was said that if you didn’t have a website you would never be a successful business. Although, of course, there are special circumstances, this is true. Today, if you don’t have a website you might as well close your doors. But just having a website isn’t enough anymore. There are many things your website needs to be a successful business in this age of technology.
If your website can’t be viewed correctly on a mobile phone you can basically call it useless thanks to Google’s new algorithm (see what we had to say about the change here.) 90% of American adults own a cell phone, 60% of them access the internet, and 34% of them go online mostly using their mobile phones. If those statistics don’t get you to make sure your website is mobile-friendly, nothing will!
Our favorite test when we create websites for our clients is to give it to someone who is unfamiliar with the company and ask them to do something specific on the website. If it takes them longer than expected then we go back and make it easier. Viewers should be able to know who you are, what you’re about and how to contact you within the first few seconds of visiting your website.
It doesn’t matter what your website is for, if you don’t have some updated, entertaining content then there is no reason for your viewers to come back. Keep posting to your website, create a blog, or update it with new information as often as possible. Give your viewers a reason to visit your website.
Social Media Icons

Of the top 12 most searched websites 4 of them are social media sites (Youtube, Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn). Needless to say, if you don’t have social media you are becoming more and more harder to find. Also, in some cases, your Facebook and/or Twitter page may get higher search rankings than your own website! When creating your website make sure that your social media accounts are posted in multiple places so viewers can easily stay connected with you. We always recommend having social icons at the top and bottom of every page.
Although every business is different we highly recommend all of the above for any website. An impressive website will almost always increase business, don’t slack on the important stuff!
